Specimen 01 / The wing.
Cream edge. Olive detail. One crescent where the guidebook expected a marking. The specimen has been placed in a drawer labeled MOTH, provisionally. Nobody wants to write MOON in ink before breakfast.
The wings are beautifully symmetrical until you begin following the small botanical lines. Then the symmetry becomes a suggestion, and the suggestion becomes another reason to keep looking.
Specimen 02 / The glass.
A jellyfish appears to have borrowed an entire cathedral. We have not determined whether this makes it architectural or merely ambitious. The specimen is delicate enough that the cabinet's warning label now applies to the curator as well.
Nearby, a lunar terrarium contains a landscape that seems larger after sunset. The dome remains the same size. This has been recorded as a problem with the notebook, pending a better explanation.
Specimen 03 / The observer.
An adult in a black moth tee stands among the ferns. The artwork repeats a little of the room: pale edges, dark leaves, a shape that needs the light to arrive at the right angle. This is the only specimen we are confident should leave the cabinet.
All organisms in this dispatch are invented. The habit of taking a second look is available for ordinary use.
