Analytics choice

Optional analytics scripts load only after you choose to allow them. You can reopen Privacy choices from the footer at any time. Necessary storage remembers that choice and supports basic site operation.

After consent, PostHog receives pseudonymous page views and selected magazine events in its US Cloud project. It keeps a browser identifier in local storage to understand repeat visits and reading journeys; it does not receive your email or form contents. Query strings and URL fragments are removed from tracked page URLs, and referrers are reduced to their origin. The project is set to discard client IP addresses after processing. Session replay, automatic click/form capture, heatmaps, surveys and person profiles are disabled. Reopening Privacy choices opts this browser out and clears its PostHog identity. This does not delete data already received by PostHog.

The preserved Vercel fallback is not this site's analytics source. PostHog's processing is explained in its privacy policy.

Previous homepage experiment

The previous claim-first versus observe-first homepage experiment has ended. The magazine homepage no longer assigns that experiment cookie. A cookie from an earlier visit may remain until its original expiry, but is no longer used to select a page.

What measurement includes

Product analytics can record page views, case-file opens, calculator use, kit recommendations, telescope-guide priorities, Moon-filter workflow and fit choices, broad phone-and-eyepiece measurement bands, broad parallax-input bands, Moon-illusion choices and diameter-difference bands, Apollo exposure-model states, lunar-flash classifier choices, field-note actions, source opens, newsletter submissions, and outbound recommendation clicks. Event properties are limited to the content, placement, and non-personal setting involved. The phone-photo finder does not collect a phone model or exact measurement, the Moon-illusion lab does not send entered pixel diameters, the Apollo workbench sends only its controlled teaching-state labels, and the parallax lab does not ask for observer coordinates.

What measurement excludes

Analytics events must not contain an email address, full referrer URL, IP address, free-form notes, or a profile of personal beliefs. Affiliate merchants apply their own privacy policies after you leave this site.

Private field notes

The lunar field-notes tool saves its form values and sketch only in your browser. The note is not uploaded to us. If analytics are allowed, the site can record that a note was started, copied, or printed, plus a broad completeness band, but never the note fields, location text, question, observation, or drawing. Clearing the sheet removes its local record.

Affiliate market routing

The hosting platform can provide a two-letter country code so an outbound recommendation reaches an appropriate partner destination. The site reduces that value to a broad market such as US, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, EU, or default. Server logs record the broad market, not a city, coordinates, or the visitor's IP address.

Email

The prototype and collection-news forms use MailerLite. It receives your email, any legacy object interest groups you choose and its signup/confirmation record. The collection-news form does not assign an item-interest group. The form submits directly to MailerLite; our application server does not receive or log your address. The managed form and Google reCAPTCHA load only when you open the secure email form. Those services can process network/device information for delivery and abuse prevention; their processing is separate from optional site analytics. Read MailerLite's privacy policy and Google's privacy policy. The list is not a purchase, pre-order or reservation. Public signup stays closed until its confirmation and unsubscribe flow is verified. Every commercial email must identify the sender and provide a working unsubscribe path. You may request removal through our privacy contact; removing a browser's data does not unsubscribe an email address.

Saved designs

Your saved design shortlist stays in this browser's local storage. Saving a design is not an order or reservation. Clearing browser data removes the shortlist.

Magazine measurement

With analytics consent, we can record which story was opened, whether its end was reached after 45 seconds with the tab visible, which design was viewed or saved, which product format was selected, whether a shop link was opened, and whether a launch-update request was accepted. These events contain controlled story or object labels—not your email, belief, form text or the contents of a field note. An accepted request is not proof of a confirmed subscriber or a sale.
