A bigger image is not automatically a more detailed image.
Magnification equals telescope focal length divided by eyepiece focal length. Once the optics or atmosphere stop resolving new detail, a shorter eyepiece only enlarges blur.
- Start at low power to find and center the Moon.
- Increase power until the view stops becoming more informative.
- Observe near the terminator, where shadows reveal relief.
What can your telescope resolve?
Set the clear aperture printed on the telescope or binocular objective.
Apollo surface hardware is measured in meters. Your result is measured in hundreds or thousands of meters. More magnification cannot recover detail the aperture never resolved.
